Itinerary
Enjoy a unique morning near the White City with The Sillar Route Tour, a half-day experience that blends history, geology, and Arequipa’s living traditions. You’ll visit Añashuayco Quarry, where master stonecutters shape sillar—the volcanic stone that defines Arequipa’s iconic architecture—into true works of art. See carved murals, learn about extraction and carving techniques, and understand why sillar is a key symbol of local identity. Then continue to Culebrillas Canyon, a natural gorge where you walk between rock walls that can reach 20 meters high and discover ancient petroglyphs, fascinating traces of pre-Hispanic art. Perfect for travelers looking for stunning landscapes, photography spots, and an authentic cultural outing in just a few hours.
We begin at 9:00 a.m. with hotel pick-up from central Arequipa. Our first stop is Añashuayco Quarry at 9:30 a.m., where we admire sillar stone murals, learn about local stonecutters’ work, and enjoy impressive views of the quarry canyon formed by stone extraction—an ideal setting to understand sillar’s origin and importance. Next, we head to Culebrillas Canyon at 10:30 a.m., walking through the canyon to see rock walls up to 20 meters high and spotting petroglyphs carved into the stone—remarkable evidence of pre-Hispanic art. We return to Arequipa around 1:00 p.m. after a morning full of history, tradition, and striking landscapes.
