Itinerary
Experience one of the most iconic day trips from Huaraz with the Pastoruri Glacier Tour: Climate Change Route, a high-Andean journey inside Huascarán National Park that blends nature, culture, and environmental awareness. Along the way you’ll visit Patococha Lagoon, known for its Andean scenery and birdlife, and admire the impressive Puya Raimondi, one of the Andes’ most remarkable native plants. You’ll also stop at the unique carbonated waters and the striking colorful spring, two natural highlights that make this route unforgettable. The grand finale is a hike of about 1 hour to the Pastoruri Glacier, a powerful place to witness firsthand the effects of climate change in the Cordillera Blanca. Perfect for travelers seeking an inspiring full-day adventure near Huaraz.
The tour begins between 8:30 am and 9:00 am as we depart from Huaraz toward the Pastoruri Glacier via the Climate Change Route, enjoying sweeping Andean views along the drive. On the way, we pass by the San Patricio Cave and make a short stop at a restaurant to pre-book lunch for the return trip and use the restrooms. We then continue to Patococha Lagoon, a beautiful highland spot where you can take in the landscape and (with some luck) observe local wildlife. Next, we stop inside Huascarán National Park to complete the entrance payment. After that, we visit the carbonated waters, see the iconic Puya Raimondi, and explore the vivid colorful spring, key highlights of this route. Before reaching the glacier, we descend to the trailhead and begin an approximately 1-hour hike up to the Pastoruri Glacier, a symbolic viewpoint to reflect on the visible impacts of climate change. After time at the glacier, we have our lunch along the way and then return to Huaraz, where the service ends at around 06:00 pm.
