Itinerary
If you want adrenaline, nature and culture in one fast-paced trip, the 3-Day Inca Jungle Tour to Machu Picchu is a perfect match. You’ll combine a thrilling downhill bike ride from Abra Málaga (4,300 masl), rafting on the Vilcanota River with Class III–IV rapids, a zip line adventure in Santa Teresa, and scenic hikes past coffee plantations, coca leaves and tropical fruit orchards. You’ll sleep in comfortable lodges, make your way to Aguas Calientes, and finish with a sunrise guided visit to Machu Picchu, with optional add-ons like Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. This is the ideal route for active travelers who want an action-packed story behind their Machu Picchu arrival.
At 6:00 a.m. we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and drive for about 4 hours to Carrizales or San Luis, where the Inca Jungle adventure begins. On the way, you’ll cross Abra Málaga (4,300 masl), enjoying sweeping Andean views and the dramatic shift into cloud forest. From there, you’ll start a roughly 3-hour downhill bike ride to Santa María, descending through changing landscapes and lush vegetation. Along the route you’ll pass coffee plantations, coca leaves and local fruits, with rivers and ravines shaping the scenery. After lunch, those who wish can join 1 hour and 30 minutes of rafting on the Vilcanota River, tackling Class III–IV rapids (activity subject to river and group conditions). Overnight in a comfortable guesthouse/lodge in Santa María.
Meals: Lunch & dinner. Overnight: Lodge/guesthouse in Santa María.
After breakfast, we’ll travel about 40 minutes to Santa Teresa for the zip line (canopy) experience—an exhilarating way to fly above the valley and forest. Then you’ll begin a scenic hike of around 2 hours along trails lined with coffee, coca and tropical fruits such as banana, mango and avocado, passing waterfalls and natural viewpoints. In some sections you’ll enjoy impressive valley views and, from certain points, sights of the Machu Picchu mountain. Continue to Hydroelectric for lunch, and then walk about 2 hours along the railway to reach Aguas Calientes, where you’ll stay overnight in a comfortable hotel—ready for the citadel visit the next morning.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Overnight: Hotel/lodge in Aguas Calientes.
Very early, around 5:00 a.m., you’ll begin an approximately 1-hour walk up to Machu Picchu, arriving in time to enjoy sunrise over the citadel. You’ll then have a ~2-hour guided tour covering the main temples, plazas and key structures, with your guide explaining Inca history and symbolism. Afterward you’ll have free time to explore on your own, or optionally hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (extra cost). Finally, you’ll head back to Aguas Calientes to take the train to Ollantaytambo, then continue by transport to Cusco, arriving at approximately 8:00 p.m. for hotel drop-off.
Meals: Breakfast. Overnight: Not included.
