Itinerary

Enjoy a thrilling mix of adventure and culture on the 4-Day Inca Jungle Tour to Machu Picchu, a popular alternative route that blends high-Andean scenery with the lush cloud-forest edge. You’ll cross Abra Málaga (4,300 masl) to start an exciting downhill bike ride through cloud forest, with the option to add rafting on the Vilcanota River featuring Class III–IV rapids. Over the next days you’ll hike along a recently discovered section of the ancient Inca path that once connected Machu Picchu with Vilcabamba, optionally relax at the Cocalmayo hot springs, and (optionally) zip-line above the valley before reaching Aguas Calientes. The grand finale is unforgettable: sunrise at Machu Picchu and a guided tour of the citadel, with optional hikes to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Perfect for active travelers who want a different, epic route into Machu Picchu.

At 6:00 a.m. we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and drive for about 4 hours to Carrizales or San Luis, where the adventure begins. Along the way you’ll cross Abra Málaga (4,300 masl), enjoying incredible Andean views and the transition into cloud forest. From there, you’ll bike downhill for roughly 3 hours to Santa María, passing coffee plantations, coca leaves and tropical vegetation before stopping for lunch. In the afternoon, those who want can join rafting on the Vilcanota River for about 1.5 hours, tackling Class III–IV rapids (subject to river and group conditions). Overnight is in a comfortable guesthouse in Santa María.

After breakfast, you’ll start hiking at 6:30 a.m. along a recently discovered section of the route toward Santa Teresa. The first 2 hours include a moderate uphill walk with stops to learn about local flora and fauna in warm, humid cloud-forest conditions. You’ll visit a local family home for a 20-minute rest and the chance to refill water and get fresh fruit. You’ll then continue along sections of the ancient Inca path that once connected Machu Picchu with Vilcabamba, while your guide explains Inca history and their communication system. The itinerary also allows time to visit the Cocalmayo hot springs (optional, entrance not included) before arriving in Santa Teresa in the afternoon for an overnight stay at a cozy hostel.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Overnight: Hostel in Santa Teresa.

After breakfast, adventure lovers can do zip line (canopy) over the valley. You’ll then head toward Santa Teresa la Vieja, cross the Urubamba River on an oroya (additional fee as noted), and hike for about 2 hours and 30 minutes through trails lined with coffee, coca and tropical fruits, with views of waterfalls and the Machu Picchu mountain in the distance. After lunch in Hydroelectric, you’ll walk about 2 hours along the railway to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll stay overnight in a comfortable hotel—ready for the citadel visit the next morning.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Overnight: Hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Very early, around 5:00 a.m., you’ll hike for about 1 hour up to Machu Picchu to catch sunrise.
