Itinerary
Explore one of Cusco’s most photogenic and culturally rich routes with the Maras & Moray Tour, perfect if you want to experience the Sacred Valley in just half a day. The journey begins in Chinchero, where you’ll discover living Andean textile traditions through an alpaca wool demonstration—from washing and spinning to natural dyeing and weaving. Next, you’ll visit Moray, an impressive complex of circular terraces believed to have served as an Inca agricultural laboratory for studying microclimates and crops. The highlight is the breathtaking Maras Salt Mines, a unique landscape of more than 3,000 salt ponds worked since Inca times by local families. A great mix of living culture, archaeology, and Andean scenery, with free time in Cusco afterward.
We pick you up from your hotel and travel northwest of Cusco by tourist transportation, enjoying beautiful Andean landscapes and passing charming villages. In Chinchero, you’ll observe the traditional alpaca wool process: washing, spinning, natural dyeing, and weaving, transforming wool into fine, colorful textiles—an authentic cultural experience. We then continue toward the town of Maras, where you can admire spectacular views of the Vilcanota range, including peaks like Chicón and La Verónica. Next, we visit Moray, a set of circular agricultural terraces shaped like an amphitheater, considered an Inca agricultural laboratory for studying microclimates and crops. We continue to the Maras Salt Mines, made up of more than 3,000 salt ponds worked since Inca times and still maintained by local residents, creating a striking white landscape against the mountains. We then return to Cusco, arriving around 2:30 p.m., leaving you with a free afternoon in the city.
